Shirley Elaine Hayes
Shirley Elaine Hayes
February 14, 1935 ~ November 3, 2015
It's with heavy hearts our family would like to let you all know that Shirley Elaine Moeller Hayes is with her savior the Lord as his master plan once more is put into motion. Shirley was born on February 14, 1935 in the old New Braunfels Hospital and passed away on November 3, 2015, at 80 years old. It happened so quickly that only Jim (mike) was at her bed side with a wonderful ending. She was breathing very hard as I gazed into her face as her eyes opened and were fixed on the heavens. At that moment she stopped breathing and saw her Lord. Shirley was a member of the Daughters of the Republic, Christian Daughters, N.B High School Spiders and countless Square Dance organizations thru the mid-west. She could cook the best Sauerkraut with plenty of bacon grease and German Coleslaw that was fit for a King. Her mother was a great seamstress as was Shirley. There wasn't anything she wouldn't tackle to make her family look good. One time we were all running late and we had to get the kids to high school. So Shirley jumped in the car still in her night clothes and headed to school only to run into a car check about a 1/2 mile from school. The officer asked for her driver's license only to find out she left her bill fold at home, which didn't matter anyway. She forgot to renew her license. So she begged the officer to let her get the kids to school and she would return; he let her. When she came back the officer asked what she was doing back here, she said because you asked me to. He said get out of here and go get your D- - - license, she did.
Shirley went from an only protected child of Richard and Elvira Moeller to an instant wife and then mother and raised 8 children that you can never imagine.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Grandson Robbie Hayes and a 1/2 sister Juanita (Jimmie). She had many relatives thru the Moeller and Meckel families and also many lifelong friends in the New Braunfels area . When she could she worked at Span-O-Life Battery, Krueger Chevrolet , Sears and Roebucks and the New Braunfels Smoke House. She got on the roof of one of our many homes and help shingle it after a Hail Storm in Kansas. Very kind, gentle, and hardworking German gal. Loved every one and would hug people that most of us would skirt around or turn a blind eye too.
The surviving children are. Michael Hayes, Caprice Calamaio, Greg Hayes, Cassandra Rivas, John Hayes, Christine Standerfer, Kent Hayes, Joshua Hayes along with their spouses and 16 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren .
A memorial service for Shirley will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel.

Kent, I can remember your mother always had a smile on her face when you guys lived in Aurora. I can remember her making me dance at the Aurora Starlighters Square Dance Hall. Eventhough I was very young and had no idea what I was doing. I remembered feeling sad because I had stepped on her foot but when I looked up at her to apoligize, she smiled and said it was okay. She made me feel at ease and was always nice to me and my family. I am very sorry for your loss.
I am unable to travel due to illness. She was a cousin that I will always remember. I am so sorry I can’t attend the services.
