Stephen Roy Lokey (Steve), aged 85, passed away peacefully after a short struggle with cancer on May 8, 2026.  He was surrounded by the love and comfort of his family in his home in New Braunfels, Texas. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Steve touched the lives of many by sharing the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and offering genuine encouragement to those around him.

Born on September 15, 1940 to Jack Edward Lokey Sr. and Willie Odell Lokey in Corpus Christi, Texas. Steve was the eldest of 5 siblings. They lived in several states for much of his growing up years. Until moving to Sinton, Texas in 1957, where he graduated high school in 1960.

On July 20, 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Seymour (Ginger). In 1966, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and served in Anchorage, Alaska until 1969. In 1968, their first daughter, Michele Dionne, was born while stationed there. After serving in the army, they returned to Sinton, Texas where in 1973, their second daughter, Monica Dianne was born.

After working for United Gas Company/Entex for 32 years, he retired in 2000. Soon after, he worked for 10 years driving school buses for Sinton ISD.

He and Ginger were members of FBC in Sinton where he sang in the choir, taught a young boys Sunday School class, and later taught a young married adults class. He also served as deacon while there.

In 2009, Steve and Ginger moved to New Braunfels, where he worked for 10 years driving a bus for AACOG, a community transit system.

In New Braunfels, he and Ginger belonged to FBCNB, where they worshipped the Lord, served in many ways, and made many new friends.

He had two favorite pastimes.  The first being building birdhouses and other woodcrafts.  His second favorite was talking about Jesus to people at garage sales, and at Walmart. He loved sharing with others what the Lord had done in his life.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ginger Lokey; his daughter Michele Taylor (husband Mark) of Tomball, his daughter Monica Miller (husband Randy) of New Braunfels; his grandchildren: Jessica Biffle (husband Cameron), Jeremiah Taylor (wife Jessica), Jade Taylor, Lakin Miller, and Lauren Rankin (husband Sam); and 5 great-grandchildren: Croix and Callie Biffle, Lynnlee, Emersyn, and Stokely Taylor; his sister, Donna Kennedy; brothers Jeff Lokey and Jack Lokey Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Edward Lokey Sr. and Willie Odell Lokey; his sister Jackquelyn Martha Petrie.

Guestbook

  1. I think of Steve and the Mayor of Lantana Circle! What a faithful witness to the love of Jesus and kind neighbor. I treasure the discussions we would share on scripture, current events, and prayer concerns. I have a white wooden cross made by Steve that sits on my front patio as a Testament to the price paid for salvation. I purchased one of his whimsical broken plant pot displays that greets visitors to my front door. One of the homemade scripture cards is a resident on my refrigerator door. The kindness given to me and my family and pets shall ever remain in my heart. Ginger I send you much love with a covering of prayer. I have missed you both since I moved from New Braunfels. I remember one visit after I had sold my house, Steve was eager to tell me he had met the new resident and had shared Jesus with her. What a man, friend and witness!
