Truman D. Wallace, 69, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Eden Hills Communities in New Braunfels, Texas, after a long battle with emphysema and Alzheimer's Disease. Originally from Svea, FL, Truman graduated with honors in Math and Chemistry from Laurel Hill High School in 1963, where he played basketball and was a member of many clubs. After high school, he moved to Montgomery, AL, where he attended Massey Draughon Business College and was also a member of the Air National Guard in support of the Vietnam War effort. He made a career with M. Sabel & Son Steel Company where he rose to the position of Vice President of Operations until he retired after over 31 years. Among his many accomplishments there were the design of (1) an aluminum smelting machine and (2) the company logo painted on the Sabel trucks even to this day. He was a member of the Chisholm Baptist Church in Montgomery until his move to Deatsville, AL. Truman had numerous interests and hobbies throughout his life ranging from riding and breaking horses, CB radios, fishing, hunting, to woodworking and racing. Any interest he ever pursued, he did with his whole heart and soul. He once built a 1963 Chevy Impala from parts, a chassis here, a motor there, and he finally found seats after driving sitting on a bucket didn't work. Of all his interests, though, racing and fast cars had to be his favorite. From driving dragsters and stock cars to being the "crew chief" for his children's go-carts, if you wanted to see him at his happiest and most passionate, the race track was the place. He raced and won in numerous tracks in and around Atmore, Montgomery, and Pensacola. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Hardy D and Versie Lee Drew Wallace, and other departed family members, Charles Carroll; Billy and Nell Young, and John and Shirley Hodges. Survivors include his children, Pamela Wallace Stephens (Shawn), Christina Wallace Smith (Jeston), John Darrell Wallace (Brittney), Devin Lee Wallace (Mary); his sister, Louise Wallace Carroll (Charles), his nephew, Dave Carroll; grandchildren, Matthew Bryant Kuznieski, Timothy Bryant Shiver (Jennifer), Chaylee Briane Shiver (Dillon), Mary Meagan Stephens, Austin Smith (Kameron), Alysha Smith, great-grandchildren, Alauna Rhiane Smith, Vanessa Briane Weekley; and beloved family, Diane Young Henderson, Paula Jo Hodges Wallace, and Eldaree Fendley. Memorial services will be held at Svea Assembly of God Church, State Hwy 85, Svea, FL, on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 1:00pm.

Guestbook

  1. In loving memory of our sweet partnership, beginning when I was 14 and Truman was 15 years old; didn’t even have a driver’s license;(so we double-dated). First love & father of my children -Truman, you are much loved and missed!

  2. May Truman’s strong spirit, love of life and incredible energy fill the hearts of his loved ones and may they find peace and comfort. He had a way of making everyone feel special with his strong, protective and tender ways.

  3. You can see a man’s greatness reflected in the character of his children even if you’ve never met him. And from what I’ve seen, you are great indeed. Enjoy heaven Sir. You’ve EARNED it. V/R Jim
