Valera Mae Cozik, 88, of New Braunfels, passed away on September 30, 2023 in New Braunfels. Born on October 22, 1934 in Mason, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Ceral Underwood and Anna Austin Underwood.
 
Valera “Val” is survived by her daughter, Julie Joffray, husband Alan; granddaughter Angel Smith-Carter, her husband Nick, and great-grandson Quinn Carter.  She is also survived by extended family members, daughter-in-law Lynn, and grandchildren Rob, Wayne, Kevin, Laura, Matt, Mark, Kelly, Evan, their spouses, children, and grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents, Valera was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Cozik Sr, brother Donald, sisters Beverly and Bethel, and extended family members son Robert “Butch” Jr. and daughter Marcia.
 

Valera was a strong independent woman with many talents and abilities, to which she always gave her best.  She enjoyed cooking and stated often that it was a way to show her love. Valera has been a Cosmetologist, Realtor, managed multiple hotels around the country, managed a ski resort in Colorado and a resort condominium on Maui, as well as owning a couple of businesses along the way.  She always greeted you with a smile and her laugh was contagious.

She requested no services or memorials but if you wish to do something to honor her life, you may donate to the charity of your choice in her name.

    Such a wonderful lady. Meet her back in the day. She had her little salon and did my hair at a reduced fee or I babysat if my sister couldn’t do it. Fly high and be at peace
