Velva May McCormick
February 28, 1936 ~ September 7, 2016
Velva May Ridge McCormick age 80, of Canyon Lake, Texas, passed on the 7th of September, 2016 from cancer. Velva was born the 28th of February, 1936, in Escondido, California. She leaves behind a son and daughter, Alan Forrest Mansir and Karen Elaine Malmgren from her first marriage to Forrest Kenneth Mansir. She was the widow of Harlan (Mac) McCormick. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, two dogs and a cat.
Velva was proud of her Escondido, California heritage. She worked at Palomar Hospital in Escondido for 13 years until she retired. She was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary both in California and in Arizona where she retired to. She taught boating safety and navigation for many years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Making teddy bears and quilts were her main hobbies.
Velva moved to Canyon Lake, Texas, five years ago to be with her daughter and Son-in-Law. She enjoyed the camaraderie of the Canyon Lake Dam Seniors and friends from her bowling league. She will be missed by all.
Velva's memorial will take place on the 6th of October at the Canyon Lake Overlook by the dam at 601 C.O.E. Road, Canyon Lake, Texas. The time will be 11:00 am at which time her ashes will be spread according to her wishes. At 12 noon a luncheon will be provided at the Senior Center behind the Recreation Center at 125 Mabel Jones Dr., Canyon Lake, TX.
