William Riley Duffer

Dr. William R Duffer. Bill was born March 27th, 1934, in Ada OK to Myrtle, and Casper Duffer. Bill passed quietly surrounded by his loved ones on May 23rd-2025 in New Braunfels TX. He is survived by his wife Sally Duffer and his three children Diana Anderson, Mark Duffer, and Janet Shepard; he lost his dear daughter Cassie Burleson during COVID. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mitchell Duffer, Ellen Duffer, Cayley Burleson Webster, Sally Dahlstrom, Jessica Shepard Casper Shepherd, Jaxon Shepherd, and Wade Beck, and his great grandchildren, Beau Dahlstrom, Cully Dahlstrom, Ada Dahlstrom, and Wilco Beck. He received his Doctorate in Limnology from Oklahoma State University and was a research scientist for the EPA working at Kerr Laboratory in Ada Oklahoma for most of his early life. His research to clean water using plants was groundbreaking, and lead the way for us to understand how to make our water safer to drink.

After his esteemed career with the EPA, Bill established his own oil company in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, and enjoyed working in that regard for many years. He was dearly loved by his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, fishing and taking care of the family ranch, and sharing his life with his wife Sally. He was a great man, with a rye sense of humor, and will be dearly missed.
