William Robert Gambrell, Jr.

A memorial service for William (Bill) Robert Gambrell Jr. 73, of Canyon Lake Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. September 10, 2016 at Arbor Grove Baptist Church, 883 County Road 93, Houston, MS 38851. The family will greet family and friends following the service at the church. Bill passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on August 22, 2016. Born in Houston, Mississippi on October 8, 1942, he was the son of the late William Robert Gambrell Sr. and Jurel Louise King Gambrell of Houston, Mississippi. He was the grandson of the late Allie Franklin Gambrell, Rose Doss Gambrell, Charles Herman King and Vannie Lee Ashcraft King. Bill was a high school math and history teacher working with many students from several schools including Woodland High School until it closed and Vardaman High School until his retirement in 1989. He was known as Mr. G by many of his students and he was also the Beta Club sponsor for Woodland High School. He worked part time as a security guard for Franklin Furniture Company for many years. Bill spent most of his retirement years working as a security guard for Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resort in New Braunfels, Texas. Bill was also ordained as a deacon at Cranes Mill Baptist Church Canyon Lake, Texas. Bill is survived by his wife Bobbie Jo Dendy Gambrell and his three daughters Rita Jo Gambrell, Sheila Denise Gambrell, Erica Renee Gambrell Spurgeon (Robert), and four grandsons Donald Bruce Gambrell (Ileisha), Robert (Robby) William Spurgeon, Llewellyn Rayford Spurgeon and Rhys Edward Spurgeon. Bill is also survived by two siblings Allie Ruth Gambrell Thompson (Jerry) and Danny Ray Gambrell (Jan).
