Anthony Patrick Olson

anthony olson
Anthony Patrick Olson passed away peacefully and in loving care at his home in the early morning hours of April 10, 2023, following a long battle with cancer. Tony was born on March 17, 1972 in San Antonio TX to the late Janice Frances Olson (Stout) and Hugh Richard Olson. He is survived by his wife Nycole Maria Ramirez, cousin Deirdre “Cina” Lesley and her family, as well as a multitude of lifelong friends who considered Tony a brother or nephew. Tony lived his entire life in the San Antonio and surrounding areas. He embraced his Native American and Scandinavian heritages, spiritually identifying with the Cherokee values of being one with the earth in balanced harmony and the courageous warrior nature of the Vikings and Valhalla - a place of honor and glory where the souls of heroes slain in battle are received. Sacred to both cultures is the wolf, a symbol of courage, strength, loyalty and protection, that strongly resonated with Tony. He believed character and actions are what define a person; that the bonds of acceptance, loyalty and choice are stronger than mere genetics. Tony was pure love; a unique soul, intelligent and curious, he had a generosity of spirit that was amazing to witness. He had an uncanny ability to connect with people on the deepest of levels, that would forever mark your soul with love and understanding. He paid attention. He could agree with you, challenge you, learn from you and provide you with a different perspective at the same time. All with love. He had a keen wit that was comparable to none and would leave you laughing days or years later. If you were lucky enough to receive one of “Red’s” personal jabs, you had entered his circle of love. With his trademark knife at his waist, wallet chain, steel toe boots, long beard, backwards baseball cap and sunglasses, Tony presented the tough guy persona. But his smile gave him away. Those who truly knew him loved him wholly and understood that he was an utmost empath at his core, a kind, generous soul, caring beyond measure. Not a fan of anything mainstream, his eccentric and extensive music library consisted mostly unknown singer-songwriters with deep meaningful lyrics that he wanted to share with anyone who would listen. He was an avid reader of fantasy books and yet thrived on human connection in this world. He cherished all living things, with a special place in his heart for dogs who never disappointed with their authenticity and unconditional love. Riding his motorcycle symbolized freedom, camaraderie, respect and brotherhood, all values he lived by. He had many nicknames, “Tony”, “Red”, “Olson”, etc. But for me, he was and will always be “Love”. Go Astros! Please join us in celebrating Tony’s life from 3 PM-5 PM Saturday May 20th. Lux Funeral Home 1254 N Business IH 35 New Braunfels TX 78130. This will be an informal gathering for all loved ones. He did not want us to mourn. He wanted us to gather, laugh, tell our tales and celebrate his life. Therefore, come as you are and please dress comfortably. He impacted each and everyone of us. We are better people having known him. Everyone is welcome to share their “Red” stories from 4 PM-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Austin Zoo. Austin Zoo (https://austinzoo.org/) Austin Zoo is a private, non-profit zoo, with over 300 animals across a 100 different species. This was one of Tony’s favorite places to visit. It is not your typical zoo. All the animals are surrenders, rescues or part of conservation efforts.

  2. Tony, you always filled the room with love and laughter by just being you! We miss your beautiful spirit and heart of gold. Love you friend ❤️❤️❤️

  3. Never a dull moment. Always the best laughs. We feel so fortunate to have met Tony at work (H-E‑B) but feel blessed to have called him a friend. We send our deepest condolences to Nycole, please know that we’re thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers. We love you Red.

  4. Tony,

I knew and loved you for every one of your 51 years of life on this earth, no matter what the circumstances. From when you were born so very premature and didn’t have much of a chance to survive, until you grew into this larger than life, life of the party, persona that others knew. I’m so very sorry that Cancer took you away way too early. Cancer sucks!

I dare say that no one knew you the way I did, from changing your diapers, keeping your feet off the grass (which you would scream if they touched), finding “Baby” (your special blanket that you would NOT leave or go to bed without, which after a million washes ended up the size of a quarter), keeping your food separated and NOT touching, holding you down and cutting your curly red hair with Sheila, to taking you to school and picking you up every day, since you and your mom lived with us for several years. I think Scott and I were also the ones that gave you your first beer (oops), when all our college friends were over playing quarters and you wanted to try. Man, you usually beat us. You were great at every game you played, and over the 51 years, it sure was a lot. Nyc used to say it was like you and I shared the same brain as we would often finish each other’s sentences exactly as the other was going to. It must have been the shared genetics.

I choose to remember all the good times we had, especially as adults. Going to the beach every chance we had, going to the river, game nights, going to baseball games, BBQs, parties, Spurs games, Rodeos, Renaissance Festivals, etc. That’s all that matters now. My kids have always called you Uncle Tony because you were as close to a brother as anyone could have been, especially since we were both only children and raised together. Scott considered you his cousin as well as mine. Great memories of a great cousin.

I hope you can rest in peace now. Tell Nan, Mom, Dee, Unk and any others you run into “Hi”.

Nyc, I know you loved Tony as much as he loved you. We are very sorry for your loss.

    Love,
    Cina and Scott Lesley

  5. Tony, I wish I could have said goodbye and given you one last hug. You will be missed by so many that loved you for who you truly were. A sweet, caring, smart and a crazy fun guy. We shared good times together over the years for our birthdays and sunny days at the beach. Give a hug to my hubby up there in heaven. Love you Red and I will miss you.

Nyc, I am so truly sorry for your loss.

    Tammy Tovar

  6. Together again. Take care of each other, we all now have another angel looking over us. Tell we meet again Tone!

    As you called me,
