Joan Shafer Smith

Joan Shafer Smith, a resident of New Braunfels, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at her home at the age of 63. Joan was born on January 26, 1950 in Shreveport, LA to Roy Robert Shafer and Norma Jane Baldridge Shafer. Always having a concern for others and their well being, Joan took up a career as a CNA. Survivors include her children, Randy and Sonia Meaux and Robert Meaux; grandchildren, Tristan Meaux, Trace McNeil, Savana Meaux and Caleb Meaux. In addition, she is also survived by her beloved pet dog, Sadie. Known as our dearest “Gran”, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. All services will end at the conclusion of the memorial service.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Joan’s sudden passing. Although I didn’t know her long I found her to a delightful woman.

Gran I am so heartbroken that you are not here with us anymore, but I know your in a beautiful peaceful place-God’s home. Mark, Christopher, Alexandria, Joel and I will always love and miss you. We were blessed to know you and you will always be our Gran .The memories we shared as a family will forever be in my heart.

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.(Psalm 23) We are deeply sorry for your loss.

Joan and i work together for a couple of years. Joan was a sweet lady and very fun. We had loads of fun together. She will be missed.

I am so sorry we never connected after I left. Louisiana.We moved to Texas and it was hard to visit friends as we did come to Oil City. To this day I do wish we had had a visit! I will always remember you being one of my childhood friends.
Joan was one of the amzing, compassionate loving people that I ever worked with. She gave it her all and went beyond the call of duty. I know she can see this from heaven. You saved my kiester on more than one occasion as a charge nurse at colonial. We did have some creative moments in that we both loved our patients dearly and went the extra mile.
