John Traylor Roberts

john roberts
John Traylor Roberts, 76, of Canyon Lake, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Resolute Hospital in New Braunfels. Born on October 29, 1945 in Kingsville, Texas, he was the son of the late James Carlton Roberts and Nancy Lee Traylor Roberts. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his son, John Ryan Roberts. John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bonnie Jean Roberts; children, Becky Thormann (Scott), Valarie Roberts, and Richard Roberts (Tara); grandchildren, Logan Thormann, Lucas Thormann, Caden Grimball, James Roberts and Haley Roberts. John was a loving husband and doting father and grandfather. He loved to tell the story of when he saw Bonnie for the first time. The day he first laid eyes on her he looked at his friend and said, I’m going to marry that girl. And he sure did! From the day he met Bonnie that was the only woman for him. He spent 52 years happily married to the love of his life. He enjoyed coaching all four kids in baseball and softball, and maintaining the baseball field which he took great pride in. He worked as a commercial tire salesman for C.O. Farmer Firestone in Victoria Texas till he retired. He was active in the Church of Christ. John also had the Gift of Gab. Let’s just say the man could talk.. and talk and talk. You knew if you started talking to John Roberts you were going to be there a good while. He was a proud father and he enjoyed talking about his kids. He even became like a dad to all his kids closest friends. He referred to them as his adopted kids. He had a heart of gold. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 4, 2021 at the Lux Funeral Home Chapel. All services will end at the conclusion of the funeral service on Saturday afternoon.

  9. I was blessed to share the last half of my senior year in high school at the Roberts’ home. They took me in and treated me as if I was their own child. I needed that love and acceptance and they both gave it without hesitation. Valerie was the little sister I never had and Richie and Ryan were my brothers. We were family. I never really took the chance to say thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Roberts for their kindness and love, and I don’t know if they understand how much that time meant to me. Mr. Roberts made me laugh, told me many stories, and was never shy about sharing his truth. I have not seen the family in more than 20 years, but they have always stayed in my heart, my memories, and my prayers. I love you Mr. John Roberts; enjoy your time with Jesus and I will see you when I get there. I am certain you will still be talking to Him:0)
