Tyrus Schroeder passed away May 9, 2023, surrounded by family at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, TX at the age of 68. Ty was born on May 1, 1955, to Marvin and Hilda (Wernecke) Schroeder in Dallas, TX where he was baptized in the Lutheran faith. At the age of seven, the family moved to Brenham, TX where he confirmed his faith at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.
He graduated from Brenham High School before attending Texas A&M where he received a BS in Biology, a BBA in Accounting, and an MBA in Business Computing Science. He obtained his Certified Public Accounting license before attending the University of Texas at Austin School of Law where he graduated with a JD, and later attended the University of Texas Medical Branch where he graduated with an MD. He completed his medical residency and fellowship at UTMB in Galveston.
Ty was board certified in pulmonary and sleep medicine and he owned his own solo practice in New Braunfels for 27 years. Ty was a member of the Texas Medical Association and Comal County Medical Society. He served on various committees for Christus Santa Rosa Hospital and was Chief of Staff from 2015 through 2016. Most recently, he was a Medical Director of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Christus Santa Rosa Outpatient Rehabilitation.
On October 17, 1981, Ty and Sharon (Pfennig) were married by Rev. Robert Pfennig at Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham. Together, they raised three children, Michael, Daniel, and Kirsten.
Ty was a lifelong learner and loved picking up new hobbies and skills ranging from photography to home and auto repair. He was a loving husband and father. He loved travelling with his family and especially enjoyed visiting national parks. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for many years.
He is survived by wife Sharon Schroeder of New Braunfels, son Michael Schroeder of New Braunfels, son Daniel Schroeder of Houston, daughter Kirsten (Josh) Muehlbrad of Castle Rock, CO, brother Alan (Leslie) Schroeder of Pearland, brother-in-law Bob (Anne) Pfennig of San Antonio, brother-in-law Bill (Kathleen) Pfennig of Fair Oaks Ranch along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He is predeceased in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 13, at 11 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, New Braunfels.
Memorials may be given to SOS Food Bank, St. Paul Lutheran Church, or Lutheran World Relief.

Q: Describe where Tyrus worked and what they did
A: Dr Schroeder was my mom’s sleep medicine doctor for many years and she always enjoyed her visits with him. Thank you for being there for my mom when she needed a wonderful doctor to take care of her. He will be missed.
Such a sweet caring man, a good friend, colleague, and man of service to medicine and our community. You will be missed dearly.

Q: What will you never forget about Tyrus?
A: I will never forget how loving and kind Dr Tyrus Schroeder was to everyone. He was always happy and had such a jolly laugh. He was never judgmental. During the years that I worked for him, he made me feel like family. I will forever be grateful for the love, kindness and patience that I received from Tyrus and Sharon.
May this tree grow as long and strong as Tyrus.

Some of my most fond memories growing up was on the farm with Ty and Allen. One of our favorite games of which there were many was to go into the entrance or parlor room, close all the doors leading to the rest of the house. And the best time was at night, turn off all the lights and then proceed to throw a super ball and try to avoid getting hit or creamed by each other. The goal was to retrieve the ball and of coarse run into each other and eventually have a good o dog pile wrestling for the ball. It would last until one of us got hurt and the parents put the kibosh on it. During the day we would have chores, which was fun for a city slicker like me. Feeding the cows, picking eggs, and then playing in the barn and jumping from the 2nd floor or roof rafters into the corn bin.. chase in the cattle yard all the while trying to avoid the fresh wet cow poop which we never could. It was great fun to laugh at each other when that happened. We would also have cow dung fights throwing the cow patty’s at each other.. there are many more but you can see how much fun it was. At least to us. Thank you Tyrus for your life ,getting to have our time together growing and playing as kids !
He was a very good Dr. I had the pleasure of working with him at Christus Rehab. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear this , Dr Schroeder was my favorite Dr , I lived in San Antonio, and looked for a good pulmonologist, and I did not mind driving to New Braunfels , his wife and son worked at the office , I saw him recently and how no idea he was ill,,, he was the best Dr , I ever had …
