My favorite teacher

  1. This post is years after his passing, but how I wish I had been there to celebrate his life with his family and my fellow classmates.
Many years after getting to know Senor Maldonado at Scarborough in 1977-1979, I have moved to NY and begun working with students.
Many times my students in the many NY schools I go to ask “Who was your favorite teacher?”. Always! – Always, the memory of Senor Maldonado pops up.
He was the best of humans. He made his classes fun and funny. He took the time to care about his students. He expected the best of you and expected and helped you to rise to your best. He was our senior advisor for the ’79 class officers – and even had us over for a dinner at his luxurious house one night! I thought he was the kind of adult I aspired to be. He was beyond wonderful. How lucky we were to have him in our lives. THANK YOU for coming to Scarborough, Senor Maldonado. THANK YOU for not only teaching us the Spanish that I would use and grow on the rest of my life, but thank you for showing us how fun a classroom could be.
We were SO lucky to have you.
