Eldron Erwin Valnes passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in New Braunfels, TX. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Peace Lutheran Church in New Braunfels at 10:00 am. A Committal service will be held in Sisseton, SD where he will be buried in May. Eldron was born November 14, 1931 in Wilmot, SD to Erwin and Lola Niles Valnes. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sisseton and confirmed at the Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church. He attended rural school in Buffalo Lake Township in Marshall County and graduated from high school in Sisseton. After graduation he went on to get his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education from Northern State College. As an educator, he began his teaching career in the rural school system in Roberts County. From there he went on to teach in Winthrop and Hutchinson, MN, and Aberdeen, SD. He was a principal of elementary schools in Aberdeen, Philip, Edgemont, Sisseton and Britton, SD. He served as Director of Teacher Placement for the State of South Dakota for three years. He also turned his beekeeping hobby into a career while living in Aberdeen. On August 24, 1952, Eldron married Corrine Hanson from Rosholt, SD. Together, they have four children, ten grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. After retiring from education to Rosholt, they moved to Benson, AZ and then to New Braunfels, TX. During his retirement, he enjoyed RV camping, dancing, gardening, fishing, target shooting, woodcarving, traveling, , meeting new people and most of all, spending time with his family, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Lola Valnes, and his brothers Noel Valnes and infant Arlen Valnes. He is survived by his wife Corrine, and children Meryl (Linda) Valnes of Durham, NC, Vanette (Steve) Sherrill of Arlington, TX, JoEtta Younger of Placentia, CA, and Mark (Julie) Valnes of Carrollton, TX, grandchildren and great-granddaughters, Sandra Valnes Quammen (husband Cory and daughters Linnea and Elise) , Matthew Valnes, Leslie Sherrill Lybarger (husband Tim and daughters Tenley and Annalie) , Richard Sherrill(wife Erin Busk), Robert Sherrill, Sean and Luke Younger, and Dane, Stian and Ryker Valnes and two sisters , Carron Valnes-Thomas, and Varlona (Valnes) Hagen. Memorials may be made to the The Family Promise of New Braunfels, TX or a charity of your choice.

Both you and Eldron made my sixth grade year at Lincoln Elementary one of the best ever. Having recently lost my mother, Phyllis, my thoughts have turned back to our days growing up on 6th Ave and attending Lincoln. You and Eldron both hold a special place in my heart.
