Born in: Galveston, Texas
Resided in: New Braunfels, Texas

Paul Norton Deltz, 87, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025.

Paul was born in Galveston, Texas on December 13, 1937 to John Joseph and Helen Marie Deltz and was always proud to be a BOI, “Born on the Island”. Growing up in Galveston, Paul loved to fish and water ski. Paul graduated from Kirwin High School in 1955 and attended the University of St. Thomas before transferring to THE University of Texas where he graduated in 1961 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

A week after Paul enrolled at the University of Texas, he met the love of his life, Patricia Joan

Horn of Muenster; she was his eighth date in six days. (He was determined to get over a broken heart!) They celebrated 65 years of marriage this past September. They had a beautiful life together and were blessed with four children, Teresa (Terri), Carole, Michael and Sharon. A loving husband and caring father and grandfather, there was nothing Paul would not do for any family member or friend who was in need.

Paul was a project engineer and manager of mechanical engineering at Caudill Rowlett Scott Inc., a project engineer at I. A. Naiman + Associates and was the branch manager of Goetting & Associates in Houston before transferring to Goetting’s San Antonio office in 1979. He later became a partner in the Goetting firm. He was a Life Fellow of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers), and a licensed Texas Professional Engineer. Paul managed and designed projects for educational, commercial, medical, industrial, and entertainment facilities, most notably Fiesta Texas, Sea World, BAMC and USAA Headquarters. Overseas projects took him twice to Saudi Arabia and also to China in 1983, when very few Americans visited the country at that time. Paul served as the president of the Alamo Chapter of ASHRAE and San Antonio Breakfast Club. He served on the advisory boards for the University of Texas Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Trinity University Engineering Science Department.

In addition to his work as a mechanical engineer, Paul was an active member of several organizations in the New Braunfels area. Having become a Knight at the age of 18, Paul was an active member of the local Knights of Columbus Chapter 4183, serving on almost every work committee, was a fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus Assembly 1791, a Boy Scout leader, and an early member of the New Braunfels Hope Hospice Board.

A devout Catholic, Paul will be remembered as a man who put his faith in action. Paul was president of the Sts. Peter and Paul School Board and served on the school board for St.

Thomas More School in Houston. Paul served as a lector and eucharistic minister for Sts. Peter and Paul Parish and was a member of the SPP Catholics for Religious Freedom ministry. Paul was a champion for causes that were dear to him such as erecting Right to Life crosses on the frontage road of I-35 and advocating for all Americans to have the right for religious freedom.

Paul was a man who was never known to be idle. In addition to his volunteer work, there seemed to be nothing that Paul could not do. Not only did Paul build an addition to his home in Houston, but he quickly got to work after moving to New Braunfels to build an addition to the house he has called a home for 46 years. Paul was always the person to go to if you needed a helping hand, and no project seemed too small for him. One summer he drove a U-Haul loaded with inherited family furniture across the country to his children, beginning his trek in Galveston, stopping in Dallas, and then Indiana before reaching his final destination in New Hampshire. His yard could never be too green, dirty cars were not allowed in the driveway, the yard was weekly mowed and edged, and tree limbs were not allowed near the roof. During retirement when not attending to his to-do list, Paul spent many hours enjoying a hot, black coffee or a cold brew while appreciating the view from his patio and front porch.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents John and Helen Deltz, his brothers John and Benno Deltz, his sisters-in-law Marilyn Doughty and Catherine LaGrange Deltz, niece Jackie Hales and brothers-in-law Jay Winslow and Jimmy Doughty. Paul is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia Joan Deltz, and their four children — Terri Magnus, husband John, and their son Paul; Carole Flaherty, husband Bill, and their children John, Keefe, Mary and Brigid; Michael Deltz, wife Angela, and their children Grant Deltz, Eva, Luke and Sean Hospenthal, and Sharon Sheguit, husband Ken, and their children Luke and Rachel. Paul was a devoted family man, whose love and devotion extended to all members of his family. Paul is also survived by his sister-in-laws Diana Winslow and Clemmie Finn. He was a proud uncle to Tracy Deltz, Cheryl Mancuso, Troy Deltz, Laura Jean Clark, Sondra McKeown and Dana Young.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 5 to 8 p.m. with rosary at 7 at the Lux Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be Monday, November 3, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I have nothing but the fondest memories of Mr. Deltz and all of the time I spent in the Deltz household during my childhood! Sincerest condolences from the Eddy family

  2. I enjoyed working with Paul at Goetting and Associates from 1982 till he retired. He was a good man and good engineer.
We will be lifting the family up in prayer at this time. God Bless.
    Tom and Gayle Pulliam

  3. Terri and the Deltz Family, Thinking of you at this difficult time and wishing you peace. Melissa Ludwig

  4. My deepest condolences to the family. What a beautiful tribute! Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

  5. I have many memories of working with him on various K of C activities such as the Knight With the Seminarian dinners and float parades. Being an engineer myself, I loved his analytical way of figuring out the best way to do something. When he said, “By my calculations”, you know it was going to work. May he rest in peace in heaven knowing he did God’s will on earth.
