With great sadness, we announce the passing of Rogelio Martinez, born on March 20, 1939, in Havana, Cuba. Rogelio moved to the United States in 1952, attending Military School in Florida. In 1957, he returned to Cuba, but fled to New York City in the early 1960s to escape the communist Castro government. He was the true embodiment of the American dream, he met his beloved wife, Betty (Falisconi) Martinez on the NYC subway and began a 50-year adventure resulting in four wonderful children. After Betty’s passing in 2014, Rogelio found a beautiful companionship with Josefina Carta and began anew with her family for the last decade.
Besides a loving father, Rogelio was a successful entrepreneur, building printing businesses across Florida to California, eventually retiring in Texas. He loved to share his passion of Western movies, Cuban food, music, heritage and of course his family.
A devoted father and husband, Rogelio was known for his love of life and family, quick wit, and his joyful presence. He is survived by Josefina Carta, his children: Vivian, Roy, Patricia, (late son Alex), his step-daughter Aymee, and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Martinez will be laid to rest at Hill Country Memorial Gardens.
