Sergeant Tyler J. Fox

Tyler Fox passed away on November 17, 2024. He was a loving father and proud member of Animal Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division stationed in 29 Palms California from 2002 to 2006.

An infantry Marine with three combat deployments to Iraq, Tyler was a hero, a patriot, a leader, and friend. Marines of all ranks looked to him for his leadership abilities and tactical prowess. A graduate of the Infantry Squad Leader’s Course, Sgt Fox was truly an expert in his craft.

While deployed to Iraq on his third tour, Sgt Fox earned the assignment as Section Leader for a Mobile Assault Section that comprised of 4 HMMWVs, 4 Machine Guns, 16 Marines, and a Navy Corpsman. His efforts in all areas ensured the freedom of movement and safety of all service members transiting the Battalion’s Area of Operation. He performed these duties on some of the most dangerous lines of communication in Western Al Anbar Province.

Sgt Fox was the recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Iraq Campaign Ribbon, The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the National Defense Service Ribbon.

He was a loving father who would go from letting his daughter paint his fingernails to playing nerf guns with his sons all while making everyone around him laugh. He enjoyed taking his children hiking, fishing, spending time on the lake, and teaching them about the outdoors.

He will be remembered for his infectious smile, sense of humor, ability to pull out the perfect movie quote at any time, enjoying Alamo Café, and his love for his friends and family.

Tyler is also survived by his mother, Cheryl, his father Jeffery Fox, his step-father, Jeff Marshall, his sister, Courtney Marshall, his brother, Dustin Fox, and numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss him.

  1. Tyler,
You changed so many lives, so much for the better. You signed your life over to the USMC, and demonstrated a selflessness not seen in most and served your nation in war multiple times. Your bravery, courage, and love for others greater then most men could possibly bare. The world is not better without you. I am personally saddened at the loss of such a great man, and mourn you every day. You made me a better person, you required me to be better. I pray for your family, I can’t even begin to imagine their sorrow. But I hope the world knows, an entire company of Marines, mourn you, love you brother. Thank you for being there for us, so many times, a stoic man of quiet strength. A great Marine, an Honorable warrior.
